In this edition of ‘tail from the tech vault’, the focus shifts to the very important cross cutting concern ‘Identity Management & App Security’. A well thought out and robust identity management machinery is imperative if you one wants to envision a thriving online business.

Especially, for the modern web and mobile apps, identity management and app security at scale can be hard pull off perfectly. And if you don’t get it right, the consequences can be anywhere from lost revenue to law suits. While this is true, it is also imperative, as a business owner you would want to focus on the business use case than spending lot of time on identity management with no guarantee of getting it right without going through multiple iterations.

This is where third party identify SaaS platforms also referred to as iDaaS [aka identity as a service] come to the party. This gives you a head start. Among other things, these platforms do all the heavy lifting around identity management, secure storage, auto scale capability, and take the burden of conforming to regulatory compliances away from you the business owner and allowing you to focus fully on rolling out your business app rapidly.

There are many cloud based platforms that can get the job done here such as Auth0, Okta to name a few. These platforms work on modern identity principles based on OAuth and openidconnect and provide support for API driven architectures using JWT tokens.

In short, if you are starting out on a digital transformation journey and want to rapidly set up an online presence for your business, then iDaaS is a step in right direction. The video below illustrates how you can hook up with Auth0 and harness the identity capabilities in a matter of minutes.
